Some people buying the Indie Mac Gift Pack have asked about using an older version of Sound Studio with their systems. Sound Studio 4 requires 10.5+ and an Intel CPU. Those people are running PowerPC or Tiger.
I have to draw the line somewhere. It’s a question of how old of a system I have time to support. For every system I say I support, I have to test on it and fix bugs and otherwise accomodate it, and that takes up time and resources that I think are better spent supporting new Apple technologies. I don’t have a PowerPC computer anymore, and none of my disks has 10.4 installed.
Even if I just allow people to use the old version, that means hosting a 13 MB file and providing license codes for that old version, which also takes time and resources. (Note that version 3.6+ requires 10.5 as well. You’d have to go back to 3.5.7 to run it on 10.4.)
Apple discontinued their PowerPC computers about 4 years ago, and 10.5 came out over 3 years ago. According to my Google Analytics, over 94% of my web site visitors on a Mac use 10.5 or 10.6 on an Intel CPU.
Unfortunately for the less than 6% that use an unsupported system, you’ll have to upgrade your system to run Sound Studio.
